Coping with ANGER

Post by PLAIN JANE » Wed Aug 25, 2010 5:48 pm

Feeling very angry I'm looking for ideas to cope.
Of course there is exercise.
I'm an organized person but was looking for something in my closet. Closet is now properly destroyed. It's silly but it helped some. I will clean it up later.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm distracting myself by being here. Hanging on.

I have had a long-standing anger problem. When I get out of control I try:
-Screaming into a pillow
-Taking a shower
-Cooking
-Talking things out [I can only do this because I'm a very blunt person]
-Making a very angry letter on my computer then deleting it

If it's a person I'm angry with, I write a long, angry, ranty text on my phone, which I then delete.

I like the angry letter idea. I can say what I want then destroy it.
Anger takes so much energy and solves nothing. I managed to get through the day with no si but it wasn't easy.

I hope the letter works for you! It's done wonders for me.

@Peggy - I'd send the text in anger instead of deleting it, haha.

Lol, I always think I might send it, but then once I've typed it out, I've calmed down enough that I chicken out.

I quite like the letter idea also. Angry letters are great coping strategies for me. I like to burn them or rip them up when I'm done. It lets out a lot of steam, especially when you can't say those things to a person.

Sometimes when I'm angry I like turning music up full blast and screaming or singing really loud. Sometimes meditation can work for me. Breathing deeply in and out while trying to relax each part of my body working from my toes & up.
