i go find somebody to hug. usually the feeling of someones arms around me calms me down enough to step away from the situation and ask myself if i really need to self harm.

if theres noone around to hug i'll play the 15 minute game until there is, even if it means staying up till 4 in the morning when my boyfriend gets home from work

My Anti-SI as of late has been:

:star: Planning some sort of activity or appointment to get out of the house every day...
:star: Listing the Pros & Cons in my head when SI raises it's ugly head and threatens to attack.
:star: Writing, Writing, Writing
:star: Not wanting to break no self harm contract with new T
:star: Nor dissappoint my Kitty...

When the urges are really strong, I do one of the following:

a) Talk to somebody online- Bojjie, Gui and PFD have saved me from myself on numerous occasions just my talking to me and keeping my mind occupied

b) Get into bed, and preferably, go to sleep. On Gui's reccommendations, that is my 'safe place' where I cant harm myself.

last night i drawed with crayons out of my emergency box. :-? i didnt think i would need it so soon, but coloring and listening to music :star: LOUD MUSIC :star: with headphones worked for me.
The end of the world's in front of me
Hard to believe all I see
It comes so close but pulls away
To let me stay another day

It's one chance in your lifetime
But it won't be the last time
It seems theres always the next hill to climb
And you know there's a lifetime

The things that I see never end
Trickin' my mind to just pretend
I understand what's happening
When others doubt you still believe

Changing what I once thought
Letting go of what I once fought

this is a really great thread, im finding it very interesting reading. i know some of these may have already been mentioned but here's three of mine...

- i go for a walk in the fields behind my house (takes my mind off things because all i can do is worry about whether or not the farmer will appear and yell at me for being on his land :P )

- be arty. i buy huge sheets of paper and then challenge myself to fill the whole sheet...i end up getting into it and by the time im done so is the urge

- online stuff. talking to friends on msn, games, filling in surveys, and one that i find the most helpful is reading through posts over and over. i find reading through positive things people have posted (such as this very thread ) really helpful, a kind of 'if they can do it so can i' thing

i have others but they are my main three that work :D
'In my field of paper flowers and candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours and watch my purple sky...'

'I speak to you in riddles because my words get in my way...
It's always raining in my head, forget all the things I should have said.'

- Drawing
- Listening to 'The Outsider' by A Perfect Circle
- Searching for one certain animal on 'images' on either google or yahoo and picking out the best ones
- Randomly typing in website addresses to see if it's a real one

I don't really have an anti-SI. I do need one.. as of now I have a certain song that I listen to that calms me down a bit... but that doesn't always work...
Through early morning fog I see.. visions of the things to be....

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad - the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.

I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead
I open them and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

0 days.

:star: engrossing (but not sad) movies

:star: cleaning

:star: reading

:star: waxing my legs (yeah i know, ya gotta let it grow a little b4 ya can do that one  )

:star: hanging with my kids (ie not isolating)

:star: hanging on bus

Aha... I have found mine. I have a rubber ducky (one of those nifty ones that looks like a devil), and whenever I feel like I need to SI... I stick it full of pins.. Poor duck.. but better him than me!!! That and some kind of grounding thing work quite well for me. :)

great ideas!

Loud music will help a lot, but make sure it's happy music. Often a sappy or angry song will encourage me to SI. Although sometimes I really can't stand pop/hip hop songs, they can still alter my mood a bit.

Hip hop.. heh. We had to listen to French rap music today in French class...

On another note... streaking my arm all over with a red marker has the same release/escape effect as acutal SI.

I guess it depends on what I am into during that time. I have been fighting for 10 years and just recently I am over 6 months SI free.

I try to
- Write fiction
- Write poetry
- draw objects that are not real or do not make sense.
- talk a walk alone
- take a walk with someone I love
- read to my kids
- play games with my kids
- yoga (believe me it really works)
- exercise (takes away the "bad" endorphins)
- anything to change my focus
- Go to BUS and rant
- a journal helped me in the past but I don't journal anymore...I prefer to write in other ways
- play with the doggie

I suggest do something that will take your mind off the idea of hurting yourself. It worked for me.
