Music----

Anyone else listen to misic to soothe you??

I am not really into the new stuff---more of the ballads from the 80's early 90's---and of course styx!!!!

I have been listening to my styx greatest hits since the kids went to bed and I am soooo calm right now---- :-)

kinda like I am on a purple cloud---floating away from everything--it is a good feeling.

I'm glad you're calm right now!

I wonder how many people are saying "fine" when they're not.

I think that from now on I'm going to look a little bit deeper...because I'm not the only one.

I love music too. I listen to everything. I love classical, especially flute, and Irish folk music and the Barenaked Ladies, and They Might be Giants and Songs from my favorite cartoons and Silly Wizard, and my all time favorite, Powderfinger, they are Austrailian and absolutely amazing. They sing one song on Odyssy #5 and the chorus is
This life well it's slipping right through my hands,
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
It's coming round agian, the slowly creeping hand of time and it's command,
settles in it's place, shadow in my face, it's pressure in my day.

I just love that song. It just speaks to me.

Also I play the flute and I love to play when I'm upset because I can play really expressively.

Oh yes definitely. I have made what I call an "Emergency Happy Tape" which is a compilation that I only listen to when feeling down. On side 1 it has sad music to help me cry, and on side 2 there is stuff that might cheer me up. I'm going to make another one soon, to keep it "fresh" . Here's some of the songs:

Side 1 - Sad songs
Everybody hurts - REM
The drugs don't work - The Verve
Why not smile - REM
Cry - Holly Cole
I'll stand by you - The Pretenders
It's OK - Delirious
Sometimes, not often - Carol Kidd

Side 2 - Happy songs
Lean on me - Bill Withers
Something inside so strong - Labi Sifre
Stand by me - Ben E King
Bittersweet symphony - The Verve
He ain't heavy - ???
Little help from my friends - The Beatles

I also listen to a lot of classical music. And I listen to music on my way to and from work as I am walking along, partly because that is a bad time for me when strange thoughts enter my mind, so keeping my mind occupied helps to combat that, and also whatever I listen to in the morning kind of stays with me all day, so if it's something upbeat I think it probably helps my mood, at least a bit.

Interesting to hear your thoughts.

My music collection boggles people since I'm so eclectic. Anyhting by Blur, Pet Shop Boys, Pulp, Rush, or the Pogues when I'm feeling angry.

Clash or Cure when I just want high energy.

Barenaked ladies, Irish Descendents, and Great Big Sea when I want happy.

Medieval babes, classical harp and anything eclectic instrumental when I just want to dissapear in my head. Current favorites - a CD by the the Andreyev Imperial Russian Orchestra (strictly Ballalika, percussion, and some flute)

And Apokolyptika - 4 incredibly good classically trained Finish cellist who play their own modern classical and hard rock. Blew me away when I first heard them. I had no idea a cello could sound the way these guys make them sound.

My blog is offline and has been down for a while due to a problem with the Isp and my web master. Working on rebuilding it.

Oh, I couldn't live without music. And what broad tastes I have, too. The only problem being that I can't purchase all the CDs I want because of a lack of money.
is it you i want or just the notion of your heart to wrap around
so i can find my way around
safe to say from here you're getting closer now

WoW!!

Thanks all for your responses-----Shakespeare wrote:

maybe that nuturing of self with music shows us we love ourselves---I know when music is playing I feel good---I dance with my kids and see the joy on their faces and I know that I cannot feel pain when they show so much joy..........
