strange happenings?

Post by Callisto » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:00 am

Did anyone else find that BUS completely disappeared a little while ago and wouldn't load/kept say the domain name wasn't registered or was that just me??

at least it wasn't just me, i had a scary thought that it might just be me and be punishment for me pissing off the staff or something :o

was very weird though, almost as though the hosting server had completely unregistered itself and the domain name :o

i wonder what the problem was?

heh i panicked that my computer had some sort of virus and then realised that was unlikely and panicked that I'd somehow been banned without knowing and that that was why and then just started growling at the computer and emailed Deb

Same here - both buslist.org and busmail.org went (at slightly different times - busmail.org was still working for a while).

They redirected to:

buslist.org: 69.25.27.173
busmail.org: 66.150.161.140

I had a slight panic as this wasn't just the webboard (and email list, presumably), but also everyone who uses a busmail.org email account.

It seems as though we all emailed Deb en masse with the same panic.

She replied and said that she's working on it by the way.

I think that its less likely to be a user-end problem and more a server problem, but I could be wrong I'm working on very basic tech-geek in training knowledge here.

I just hope that its not some nasty virus that's tried to work its way into the mySQL database or anything :-?

Hmm me thinks that we might be somewhere towards being properly fixed as the page source button at least shows up something now. Although the little bus icon that used to show up on my tabs is AWOL, but that's only a minor thing.

I had the same problem, and I'm glad to see that it wasn't just me (but sad to see that it was more than one person, at the same time)

I wish I knew more BUSser's contact info so that if I ever can't get on BUS like that again I can email someone or IM them or something. Hmmm....

Yeah - it went off-line for me right when I was in the middle of writing a fairly long pm :( . Then when I tried to log back on I got taken to a strange site underconstruction which promised future BUS schedules. I really thought for a while that our domain name had been hijacked and was having serious BUS anxiety.

I had the same problem it was kind of odd, I posted something on Main & then went to edit it & when I hit submit it brought me to this site saying "website coming soon" or something like that. I figured it'd be up in awhile which I am glad it was :)

I started panicking too, especially because of this strange redirection..
I wish I knew more BUSser's contact info
same here. I just thought maybe something with my internet is wrong and everyone else has normal access to bus...

Very glad it's working again!!

Don't know what happened as I haven't been told, but it looks like the domain-name stopped being assigned to us. That meant the web board was still existing happily, but the address we use to connect to it didn't point to it anymore.

Yeah, same.

I have 11 BUSers MSN's, so I asked someone who was online and they said it wasn't working for them either - I stopped panicking after that.

Thankyou people who fixed it!!!

Take care,
Annie.

There is a thread floating around somewhere called "what will you do when bus is down". It's probably a good idea to take a look and also to think about what you will do when bus is down. Because it's going to be down from time to time, or you're going to not have access to a computer or whatever. That happens. So what will you do?

Having bus friends on MSN or logging on to the IRC chat or e-mailing friends is a really good alternative contact.

What will you do when BUS is down?

Mia

It's in the Coping Stickies thread.

Wierdly enough, I was on the board when all of this happened, and I didn't get any of that. :o
