Rights and affirmations
I have posted this here for anyone who chooses to take what they wish from it for themselves. It is something that I have found useful in many situations and wished to share it. They don't all work for me all the time but I find most days there is at least one that hits a chord within me.
Your Legitimate Rights
-You have a right to put yourself first, sometimes.
-You have a right to make mistakes.
-You have a right to be the final judge of your feelings.
-You have a right to change your mind or decide on a different course of action.
-You have a right to protest unfair treatment or criticism.
-You have a right to interrupt in order to ask for clarification.
-You have a right to negotiate for change.
-You have a right to ask for help or emotional support.
-You have a right to feel and express pain.
-You have a right to ignore the advice of others.
-You have a right to receive formal recognition for your work and achievements.
-You have a right to say NO.
-You have a right to be alone, even if others would prefer your company.
-You have a right not to justify yourself to others.
-You have a right not to take responsibility for someone else's problems.
-You have a right not to have to anticipate others' needs and wishes.
10 Affirmations
1. I am responsible for my results; others for their results.
2. Others can only hurt or disappoint me if I let them.
3. I am in control of how I think and feel.
4. I am self-committed and know what I want and need.
5. I can conquer any dragons in my head.
7. I am conciously competent: I know what I'm good at and what areas I can grow in.
8. I do not need anyone's approval but my own.
9. I take the time to respond, not react.
10. I am responsible for my feelings; others are responsible for theirs.
*Just a quick note to say I couldn't find where I first read this so I don't know what number 6 is, my apologies. If anyone comes across it feel free to let me know*

Thank you very much for this, I find these very valuable and helpful to my recovery.
I did have a copy of this at one time, but I lost it, so I am going to print a copy out for my own records.

Excellent thread.
We all need reminding of those every so often.

I love the 2nd affirmation. That is how I have begun to mold myself. That and the 8th affirmation.

These parts resonated with me:
-You have a right not to justify yourself to others.
-You have a right to be the final judge of your feelings.
-You have a right to ignore the advice of others.
8. I do not need anyone's approval but my own.
I have recently started to realise how much stock I place in other people's opinions of what I do and who I am. It's been a long time since I was able to say simply "this is who I am" instead of "this is who I am, isthatokaywithyou??!"

i wish i could understand an emphasis the affirmations for myself... but they all seem to fall flat... seem so far from how I really am. It would be a lie to tell myself these things... and I'm not suppose to lie... so where does that leave me?
sorry in a questioning and frustrated mode today. last time i read these i was fine with them but discouraged with the affirmations.
