Oh yes definitely. I have made what I call an "Emergency Happy Tape" which is a compilation that I only listen to when feeling down. On side 1 it has sad music to help me cry, and on side 2 there is stuff that might cheer me up. I'm going to make another one soon, to keep it "fresh" . Here's some of the songs:
Side 1 - Sad songs
Everybody hurts - REM
The drugs don't work - The Verve
Why not smile - REM
Cry - Holly Cole
I'll stand by you - The Pretenders
It's OK - Delirious
Sometimes, not often - Carol Kidd
Side 2 - Happy songs
Lean on me - Bill Withers
Something inside so strong - Labi Sifre
Stand by me - Ben E King
Bittersweet symphony - The Verve
He ain't heavy - ???
Little help from my friends - The Beatles
I also listen to a lot of classical music. And I listen to music on my way to and from work as I am walking along, partly because that is a bad time for me when strange thoughts enter my mind, so keeping my mind occupied helps to combat that, and also whatever I listen to in the morning kind of stays with me all day, so if it's something upbeat I think it probably helps my mood, at least a bit.
Interesting to hear your thoughts.
Laura
