i think letting bus'ers have a say in who the ombudsman are is an excellent way to feel even more part of the board, feel like you're being heard, and maybe even a feel a bit more responsible for the board (since w/o bus'ers this board doesn't really exist).
my only concern is that it not be a popularity contest. i know that sounds junior high, but i've seen that happen elsewhere.
if you see/read someone you think would be a good ombudsman, i'm thinking a pm to deb stating *why* that particular bus'er would be a good choice is an excellent way to participate in the growth of bus.
just my 2 cents.

I like the idea of the board at large having some say in who the ombuds-people are, but Swan's right that it shouldn't turn into a popularity contest, so maybe the nominations would be a good idea, and let either the ombudsman or the board staff(or both between them) choose from the nominees?
And the idea of being re-eligible after six months sounds cool, too.
I really really like this whole ombudsman idea.

I think the idea is brilliant, and also the way in which it's being executed.
I especially like that. And the starting line-up appears to be a great group of BUSsers.we'll always have four new and four experienced people on the job
I agree.swanfaerie wrote:i think letting bus'ers have a say in who the ombudsman are is an excellent way to feel even more part of the board

Hello World.
It's not this particular post that lead me to feel this way, it's that this is where the culmination of the process on this thread hit me. So, here it is: all we need is a spot of land and we can form our own union!balletomane wrote:I think it would be best if the board could elect the advocates. If that isn't feasible, having the board nominate people is also a good idea. But instead of the staff choosing, I think the current advocates should choose.

I like the idea of the board being involved in whatever way possible
I also see the posibility of it turning into a poularity contest of sorts.
I actually do have more faith in bussers as a whole btu human nature can do strange things.
Maybe bussers doing the nominating and ombudsmen/mods/admin making the final decision?

Perhaps a voting system where the admin votes count a lot more than the member votes? I don't know. Personally I think that the admins are more suited to choose who the advocates are... but then again, people might see that as admins having control over the people who are supposed to review them... I don't know.

Ombudsman noobie, checking-in for duty!
Apologies for this, but I have a really stupid question to ask…
I got into the “Ombudsgroup” O.K., but I’m not sure what to make of it, now that I’ve seen it (that is, it doesn’t appear to have the format of a regular forum—it looks more like a listing of who the ombudsman are). So, I guess I’m just wondering how it works; how, on a technical level, will the ombudsman will be aware that someone needs assistance, in the first place, and how we respond to them after that....? Do we just keep looking in that “Ombudsgroup” area, or will we receive something like a P.M. notification?
Perhaps a quick Ombudsman orientation course would be useful… (at least for those like me, who just aren't getting it!! ).
