I think its great that you're looking to get more help. With the counsellors you're seeing now, if it isn't helping, are you able to talk about that? If they don't know things aren't helping, they're not going to change their approach.
Where abouts are you ? If you can say roughly, people might be able to have some ideas on where to look for support groups. And don't forget that BUS is essentially a support group, just online

counsellors are great, but i haven't found them very helpful when it comes to si. i'm pretty new here, but i have to tell you that this is the most amazing place i've found support. no matter what your issue is, there's somebody who can relate and give you advice and support. everybody is here to help eachother, so it's a great place to start. you might meet some great people [like meeeee ] and i've learned so much here. i hope you find it helpful too, pm me anytime, i'm here for you

I must admit I didn't have much help on SI specifically from any of the professionals I've seen. It was never a major topic of conversation, but was something that they were aware of. I liked that they didn't focus on it, because to me, it wasn't the most important thing. Underlying issues are far more important, in my opinion, than SI behaviour, and this is where counsellors can help a lot.kate_ wrote:counsellors are great, but i haven't found them very helpful when it comes to si.
You can't get more out of counselling than you put in. If SI is a big issue for you, the main thing, you need to bring it up and talk about it or it won't go anywhere.
Here are some websites you may want to check out....
http://www.selfinjury.com/
this is S.A.F.E. Alternatives - a treatment center for SI plus other info
http://www.palace.net/~llama/psych/injury.html
this is a good list of some offline resources, look at the list on the left side of the screen and click "offline resources"
Where are you located? That would help a lot.
Good luck and take care!!!
