Troubles Posting
Hi,
I'm really not sure why, but I'm having a problem posting anything that's longer than about 2 paragraphs. I have no problems seeing the boards, reading the posts, and opening the reply page, but whenever I press 'Submit' it just keeps loading until it times out (I guess) and goes to a blank page with a weird address (lots of numbers, etc). I can overcome it by splitting my posts and submitting them separately, or trying to shrink them and take out all the smilies, but it's a bit of a hassle. I've tried logging out, clearing all cookies, closing my browser and then re-opening the browser, logging back in and trying again.
Also it seems I'm not receiving all my PMs.
Any one know why this might be happening and how I could fix it?

Hmm, weird...
I *might* be able to trouble-shoot it for you. What browser (and operating system are you using)? Could you post (or PM) a sample of the "weird address (lots of numbers, etc)." that you see - are they always the same?

Hi Kiwi.
OS: Windows XP (Meida Center Edition)
Browser: Firefox 3.6.9
The address that came up while attempting to post in my place this morning was: http://buslist.org/phpBB/posting.php?mode=reply&f=19&t=139678
The post this corresponded to was this one
It's not always the same address (at least I don't think so).

Re: Troubles Posting
We are using the same browser .
It could be a firewall problem (FF 3.6.9 doesn't always play nicely with XP).
Follow the instructions here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Con ... P_Firewall and see if that helps. If you are using a "non-Windows" firewall, the information here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firewalls might help.
Alternatively, maybe the time-outs are an ISP problem. What happens when you try to send yourself an e-mail with a largish (~ 1 MB) attachment?
I have the impression from what you say that this is a recent issue for you(?) and for sure FF 3.6.9 is a recent up-grade. It is being nice to me, but I am running Windows 7. You might have to consider going back to FF 3.6.8?
I am clutching at straws a bit here...

Re: Troubles Posting
Thanks heaps Kiwi.
I had a look at the firewall stuff. My actual firewall program wasn't there, but I got the general drift and did what I think is the equivalent in my program. I sent myself an email (with a ~1MB attachment) and had no problems.
It is a pretty recent issue. I can't remember if upgrading FF and this starting coincided or not though. Decided to downgrade anyway, and see if it makes a difference.
Will give it a go, and if this fails, I might have to play around a bit more. Worst comes to worst I'll speak to dad (he's in the IT field), although how I'm going to explain it and convince him to suggest things without actually seeing the problem, I don't know.

Re: Troubles Posting
First with the pm issue...is your mailbox full? I don't mean that to come across as being condescending but the number of messages I have is something I never check, and might be worth checking.
Are you only have troubles posting in that one particular thread or all over the board? Obviously you can post here, have you tried anywhere else and do you get the same results?

Re: Troubles Posting
No, I don't have many PMs in my inbox. Maybe 10 at most?
It's all over the board. It seems to be ok, if my post lengths are short, but as soon as they become a couple of paragraphs they won't upload. At the moment I've found if I type it out, cut half the post out and submit it, then go back and edit it to include the rest it will post, but other than that it's still a bit temperamental.

Re: Troubles Posting
I wonder if it's a time-out issue with your isp. Do you have trouble posting large amounts on other websites?
