ways to cope..

Post by cheyenne danae » Mon Mar 03, 2008 1:58 am

I've been self harming for a little over a year now. I know I have it in me to stop but if I go longer than a few days w/o self harming I get extremely frustrated and give into the urge. I've found that blasting my favorite CD and singing along usually helps me get over the urge to SI however I can only do that when I'm home alone because my aunt (who I live with) doesn't share my taste in music (I like screamo/metal/rock/ and a little rap...she likes country). I'm only home alone about once a week so the music thing doesn't help much. Snapping rubber bands when I get the urge does absolutely nothing for me and writing in a journal doesn't help much either. Does anyone have any advice on how I can cope with the urge to SI without giving into it?

Hmm have you tried any of these..........

rubber band
ice
going for a walk/run
go shopping
visit a park and read
play with pets of you have some

just remember, that urge is a feeling. A feeling this isn't going to last forever! You will eventually get over that feeling and than be proud of yourself for not giving in! :star:
