hello there.
i have been a faithful busmail user for many, many moons. but in the past year i have been receiving A LOT of spam. like sometimes 100 messages a day. it is always for really filthy stuff and lottery scams. i have no idea how these people got my e-mail address.
my gmail account filters spam really well. but the busmail spam filter does not work at all.
when i go to the spam filter options page there is a message at the top that reads "WARNING! Tell the administrator to set the "SpamFilters_YourHop" variable."
i don't know what that is. but maybe that is why the spam filter does not work.
i set up regular message filters that should automatically send e-mails containing certain words directly to the garbage but that does not work either. when i open a message that was supposed to be filtered and sent to the trash, it says that the message has been flagged and if i am not reading it from my trash folder then i should contact an admin. all of the messages are still going to my inbox. none are going directly to the trash.
i don't understand what is wrong. advice please?
busmail spam filter woes

Hi Brinley
Sounds like a spam nightmare. I don't think any of the current admins have anything to do with busmail. We only administer this board, and I wasn't even aware that busmail existed for ages. I suspect the only person who can handle this is deb. You could try emailing busboard@busmail.org about it since that should go to deb's inbox. (That's the board email address - goes to deb and some admins).
