frustrating when you want to but know you don't need to isn't it? fwiw i really don't think ringing t is pathetic, or asing for what you want, i think calling him to talk about it would be a really good thing to do. if you're still reluctant to call maybe try some of the dbt skills first, then if they don't work you can call him, say you've tried but not getting anywhere with them
