Another in a <a href="http://buslist.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php? ... >series</a> of posts about making the board more user-friendly through the magic of FireFox extensions.
Oddly enough, spelling has never been my problem. Typing, on the other hand... I tell people that I practice interpretive typing -- I type, you interpret.
<a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1022/">ASpellFox </a> is my friend. Unfortunately, if you have a Mac, it doesn't like you very much.
I cna tpye badly, and when I right-click in the text box and choose ASpellFox, I get this:
<a href="http://busmail.org/gallery/albums/hoste ... jpg">click to enlarge<br><img src="http://busmail.org/gallery/albums/hoste ... b.jpg"></a>
You have to go through three steps to get this one.
First, you must install a program called ASpell. Download <a hef="http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/w32/Aspel ... e">this</a> and run it.
Then, go <a href="http://aspell.net/win32/">here</a> and download the language(s) you want; run those files to install them.
Finally, on <a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1022/">this page</a> install the ASpellFox extension. Restart FireFox, and you can hide your tendency toward typos.

Deb, I love you. I was just in a sulk cos updating firefox killed my spell checker, and I couldn't find another one, but here you are to save me from typos.

Safari has spell-check built in anyway. Just choose Edit > Spelling and then you can either spell-check, or enable the check as you type feature.

yeah, safari is an excellent browser. i don't have a mac, though, and they never made a pc version. that's actually why i ended up with firefox (it was firebird then, having just changed form phoenix -- it took them a while to find a name no one else had laid claim to) -- i went looking for the kinds of features safari had.

Firefox 2.0x has built in spell check now too, but I bet you know that already. Oh happy happy...

Contrary to rumours I do not look at the world through rose coloured glasses. I have rose coloured bifocals. While they allow me to still see the yucky bits so I can do what I can about them, they also let me enjoy the good, perhaps to escape a little and so not become hardened and despair. - DWP
