I voted for 'sleep less', but I think I should've voted other. I used to always go to bed by nine and wake up by nine at the latest, but as the depression got worse, I was staying up until between 3 and 5am and sleeping until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I got prescription sleep meds, so now I'm going to sleep at ten, but still sleeping until at least noon.

I posted Other as I find I go through stages of sleeping excessively and still being tired and stages when I can't sleep at all. It just changes but I always feel tired whichever it is at the time.

when i'm depressed i don't want to face the world. I just want to get into bed and sleep forever. so that's sort of what i try to do. one time i was so horribly depressed and i slept for 16 hours straight (12am-4pm) my mom woke me up at 4....perhaps i could have slept longer....hmmmn....maybe i could have broken a guiness world recor or something?!?!

I wonder how many people are saying "fine" when they're not.

I think that from now on I'm going to look a little bit deeper...because I'm not the only one.

For the first year I slept... upto 20 hours a day, any and every chance I got. Then it changed and I needed less sleep. Then sleeping was tough and irregular. Now, with a gentle push from meds it is regular and more appropriate. All over the place really. Thats me! :-?

At first I slept more, then I couldn't sleep at all, now I'm on prescribed sleeping meds. with my antidepressants and so I'm sleeping a bit better. Overall, I never sleep as much as I want to or when I want to. Sucks.

I think no sleep gives you more depression..I also think depression can link to less sleep cause you are thinking about lots of things..and your brain never wants to shut down.

My depression definitely affects my sleep, but I'm not consistent. Sometimes I only want to sleep, sometimes I can't sleep at all, and sometimes I sleep loads but wake up a lot...

I find more that my sleep affects my depression, not the other way around. The less I sleep, the more depressed I'm likely to feel. I've started being very careful about my sleep patterns, and the more I do that, the more I'm capable of handling my depression and not spinning out of control with it.

my sleep just gets bumped to a later time, so I go to bed from between 2-4. Meaning I'll get 6-4 hours of sleep on weekdays because I have to wake up for school, but on weekends I'll sleep for 10 hours about, but still go to bed at the same time.

I sleep a lot more, but mostly during the day as I have trouble falling asleep at night, and am exhausted no matter how much I sleep. That's what I've been doing lately, but I got my meds upped today, so hopefully that will help.
And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue,
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true,
I've been so far from here,
Far from your loving arms,
Now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine.

Sleep

Post by Seeshellz » Tue May 18, 2004 2:40 am

I'm Bipolar, so my sleep is all over the place. But, generally when I'm depressed I do sleep more. And when I'm getting hyper I need less sleep.
And this all happens while I take meds to help me sleep. So I don't really know for sure what it's like without the sleep meds.

Sleep? What's that?

When I'm anxious, I sleep less; and when I'm way into Depression, I need to sleep all the time.

I meant to check "other" but I think I may have done the wrong one.

When I am quite depressed I have more trouble getting to sleep at night and staying asleep but I am also more tired all the time and if I could sleep during the day I would. I would love to sleep pretty much round the clock when I am bad off but of course that wouldn't go over so well what with having kiddos to take care of and a house to run etc. So I pretty much am dragging tail much of the time.
Let me think about the people who I care about the most. And how when they fail or disappoint me, I still love them, I still give them chances, and I still see the best in them. Let me extend that generosity to myself.” — Ze Frank
