Anti-Copying

Post by Worthless » Tue May 04, 2004 9:01 pm

This is a long shot, as I don't believe that the technology is readily available, but does anyone know of a way in which I could make a disk be unable to be copied (including just being able to copy the file onto a new disk).

Basically I have a Powerpoint presentation which I am putting onto disk and marketing, but I can make more profit if it doesn't get copied!

Maybe someone will be able to come up with something, but I doubt it. :)

Thanks anyway!

If you've got "Compressed Folders" on your computer, or WinZip, you could put it in a Compressed Folder and password protect it. That WOULDN'T prevent copying, but it would prevent them from actually being able to run the slideshow, which is effectively the point. Such things can be easily hacked with the right technology, but it's just as easy to use a hack to copy the thing. :)

Yes, I thought of that. Unfortunately, the thing is being sold to people all in the same place, so they simply would tell each other the password. Thanks anyway though :)

Take care

At least it allows a certain degree of security. The way other programs work is to have CD keys, but that's basically the same principle. :)

I've thought if you're selling them on floppy disks you can put them on write protect then rip the tab off so they're stuck on write protect... but I'm not sure if that disables copying. :-?

It doesn't..it just assures that you can't write over the original disk.

Use RAR, it's quite a bit harder to hack.
