making myself an orange and white bracelet

making myself an orange and white bracelet

Post by beautiful_child » Wed Jan 21, 2004 6:23 am

i dont really post here that often, but im feeling pretty good right now and im hoping that my good feelings will inspire others.

i found the thread about making bracelets as a part of SIAM and had been planning on making an orange one, because ive been SIing for about 8 years now. and the other night something clicked. i dont know what it was or how it happened, but i firmly decided that i was going to stop SIing. i was going to enter myself into a state of 'recovery'. ive always said that i wish i didnt, i wanted to stop, but i put very halfassed effort into it.

then all of a sudden, i realized that something as simple as making myself an orange and white bracelet could mean so much. its a symbol of me being committed to a cause - myself. its a symbol of how much pain ive had to live with, how much pain i still do live with, and how i can overcome it and not feel the need self destruct.

im proud of myself, and i feel that its rightly so.

today i made myself an orange and white bracelet, and im wearing it proudly. its been 8 days since my last bout of SI.

i urge you all to make yourselves your own bracelets - wear it as a symbol of wanting to love yourself. seeing it will remind you of how good you want to be, how good you can be, and how good you ARE. its really amazing how something so simple as a bracelet can mean so much.

best wishes.

i too have discovered that thread and went about making one a few days ago out of inspiration... i think it's wonderful that you've decided to stop as well as show what you've been through- i support your encouragement and what you are doing completely- im wear the bracelet i made constantly and you are right, it is a big reminder... it's been 11 days since i've si-ed and everytime i want to, i look at it and remember why i'm stopping... although my boyfriend sort of smirked when he first saw i was wearing one, after i explained the bracelet he was actually very pleased and happy about it... even if you feel kind of weird, it might be worth it to make one
the best of luck to everyone

I have just made an orange and white bracelet, too ... I've been trying to quit SI, made it three weeks but then broke down and started doing it regularly again. after reading your post (and the one in the other board) I thought maybe it would help me stay away ... I don't know yet, but the process of making it was very therapeutic, as I was feeling suicidal and now I'm much better. :)

Thanks!

i am SO glad what i wrote has helped you, even if its in a tiny way. thats really the reason i put it there, because i have read posts on here and been inspired (the whole reason i made the bracelet) and i wanted to do it for other people, too. we can all do it, really. its hard and it sucks but it is possible. good luck!

I wonder how many people are saying "fine" when they're not.

I think that from now on I'm going to look a little bit deeper...because I'm not the only one.

She looks back at me,Her face pale and white,Her hair hangs wildly,And her eyes look sad and tight.Shes not afraid to die,But theres things she should of said,But she didn't know how to voice them,So she kept them in her head.So if she never see you,She wants you to know,You'll be in her heart,Where ever she may go.She looks into my eyes,This girl who i call 'she,'A tear falls down her cheek,It's so easy to forget that this girl is really me.

Thank you for this post!

You have inspired me to create my own bracelet!
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain."

orange and white

Post by Breathe Softly » Sun Apr 04, 2004 3:50 am

Well, it's been about 4 weeks, no SI..well, one minor slip, but otherwise, nothing serious enough to leave permanents marks. So I'm happy! I've been feeling really urgy lately, though, so I think making an orange and white bracelet is a great idea! Thanks for posting this thread..I'll wear my bracelet and feel connected to all the others on here who are wearing theirs too. And I know that I'll feel the same way about such a small item like a bracelet meaning so much and being so therapeutic. It reminds us we're not alone!

One of my friends makes friendship bracelets and is very talented. She is a luv, and she made me the orange and white bracelet I'm wearing now. Its BEEEautiful! I agree, I think it really is a symbol for me, that I am strong and loved.

I agree it's a great idea. I'm switchng my orange bracelet for one with three shades of orange thread and a white strand. I'm quite ready to go half-and-half with orange and white, so this will be good for me - once I get some white thread!

I have been wearing an embroidery floss friendship bracelet, the one with fish patterns on it, in four shades of orange. It's actually so pretty that I think I might keep it after I start wearing my new one, as I reminder of where I was when I made it.

And I smile, yes I smile
