I just joined and am unable to read any forums except this one. Do I need permission to read each and every one?

Hmm, weird.
Do you get any kind of error message when you get logged-out?
How much can you do when you *intentionally* log out (top LHS of the screen) - as a "guest" you should be able to read everything that is not in "members only"?
What browser are you using?

Alone we are born
And die alone
Yet see the red-gold cirrus
Over snow-mountain shine.

You walk with an intelligence
That informs a clear bright eye
There are unexpected revelations
In the company of ravens.

And die alone
Yet see the red-gold cirrus

Re: unable to read forums
This may or may not be relevant: logged out as a guest I can't read any of the forums.
Not a problem as I quite like it that way, but I know it's not how it's supposed to be!
