Place..?

I know what I can do with regards to getting rid of my place..

But am I right in thinking that if I ask for it to be moved to the holding bin, I wouldn't be able to access it myself?
Is there a way whereby I could remove my place from the boards, so other people can't see it, but I'd still be able to access it myself? Or, how could I save the posts somehow [preferably away which would allow me to save 222 pages worth with reasonable ease..?] so I could still see them.

I'm getting increasingly anxious about someone IRL stumbling across my place, but I'd be reluctant to get rid of it, or make it inacessible to me completely, because there's some wise words in there, and things which I'd like to be able to read through...

if you have firefox you can install the greasemonkey addon and then specific scripts that let you view a thread all in one page. then you could print or save that page (i'm not 100% certain though). i've been meaning to do that for a while, maybe i should try it first?

if you don't want to go through that trouble installing things, it sounds like having your place there is more important than if someone irl accidentally finds it? i would keep it, but you can get it unblocked later if you choose that.

I guess so.. I'm paranoid someone would find it. I guess that the person would have to find bus, then become a member to view place, then pick my place out of all of them though, so it's not too likely..

Yes, you are right in thinking that if your place were to be moved to holding you would not be able to see it; holding is in the "staff only" part of the board.

To save your place on your computer using IE:

(1) Go to the first page of your place.

(2) Select "Page" (RHS of the screen).

(3) Select "Save As".

(4) Choose "Web Archive, single file" from the pull-down menu.

(5) Choose whereabouts (My Documents or wherever) you want to save it to.

(6) Save.

(7) And then (because you said above "there's some wise words in there, and things which I'd like to be able to read through... ") *back it up*. That means save it to *at least one of* a DVD, CD, external HD or datastick. So, when (and note that it is *when* and not *if*) you have problems with the hard drive on your computer, the "wise words" will be there for you to read whenever you want to .

no once it's in holding you won't be able to see it anymore.

I don't know if this will work, but you can click on the 'print view' when you're in your place (it's to the left hand side near the top) and then use file, save as. I'm not 100% sure but I think that'd be an easy way to save it all as a backup and then if you've got it saved we can move it to holding for you.

i hope that helps a little, if not keep asking and i'm sure someone more technical will have a better way of how you can save your place to your computer as a backup

Yep.

I did a field test of that - picked a random place thread, saved it to the hard drive of one of my laptops as described above, turned off my Net connection (so, just me, my mouse and my laptop ) and then made sure that I could read it (using IE) *without* logging onto BUS.

Try it (and PM me if you have any problems) but make sure that you can read the saved version of your place on your computer (with your Net connection *off*) before when/if you ask a place mod or admin to move your place to holding.

Thank you! Atm, it's letting me view it in MS word, so that should work!
It seems only to be saving the 1st page, idk if I've clicked something wrong, but even if not, it doesn't take too long to do, I should be able to get there with saving each page individually!
