How to cover burn scars *possible SI as it mentions it*

Post by indigo_pie » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:55 pm

I have a lot of cutting scars and they have faded over time. Not perfect but I like to think no one can seen them as in the latter years of my self harm (even though I'm still doing it) I only ever had superficial cuts as I knew it was a way of controlling it.

I have a good few burns on my arms. One is still healing. Is there anyway other than concealer which will prevent it being so noticeable? Burns are from cigarettes, and one from a cigarette lighter, having burnt it once, it healed, and then I burnt the same area again and it will be a lot more noticeable now.

Please help. I'm a teacher, and I don't want parents' tongues to wag!

-color it black and say its a mole or something
-say you had a mole removed because the doctor wanted to test it
-usually putting just *one* bandaid over something isn't too suspicious, and once it heals blame it on a cooking accident - hot oil or something

if there is only one scar in that area, its easy to blame it on something else. when there is a pattern people become suspicious.

Just say that you had a cooking accident? The bandage idea will help, too, as long as you remember to put it on for as long as it would, in 'normal' averages, take to heal.

You'd be surprised though how many people really *don't* notice your scars. It's generally when we're freaking about them though that people believe that we have Something To Hide™ if they catch on that we're worried about a physical trait, etc.
there is, in the end, the letting go.

Wear long sleeves?
If it is warm, wear a light jacket/sweater over top of your shirt?

Just ignoring it is good, and if somebody asks about it, smile ruefully and talk about your lack of culinary skills. Most people won't notice your scars anyway (especially if they are burns. People normally don't associate burns with SI)
