I teach kids (middle and high school -not little babies here- big 250 pounders) classified as 'Emotionally Disturbed.' Like, legally, they're emotionally disturbed. The thing that works every time, EVERY TIME, to keep them at peace with themselves and each other is clay... if I can weave it into a lesson. You can be gentle with it or forceful. It complies. It's malleable, if you hate it you can throw it against the wall, squash it and start over, squash it and spray it with water and use it to make something cool later, make something funky and expressive. Get some clay you can bake in the oven. Keep a bowl of water by you to keep it moist for when it wants to crack. Get your hands dirty. Get your hands dirty up to your elbows. It helps me a lot too.

Here's something I just did: :)
Take strips of paper, write down all of the compliments you can remember recieving, and make a paper chain. It reminds you of how people *really* think of you, and makes your room pretty.

I did this one: Put on some psycho loud classical music, or even John Williams or marching music. Pretend you're a crazy conductor.

I put on Tetsuya Komuro.

At the end I was crying from laughing so damn hard.

i have to admit before i start i havent read the whole list (short attention span) but i now have it bookmarked on my computer for when im urgy.

Whoa... That is scarily vast.

I have one to add. Sometimes it helps me if I stomp up and down stairs for a while, and I mean really stomp. I imagine that I'm stomping on whatever's causing me to feel that way, and it makes me feel a lot better.

I got through last night, and quite a bit of that is due to the longgg list :)
Three cheers for the long list, if nothing else it reminds us that we can find other ways to cope, and we don't HAVE to hurt ourselves :)

I've always been a fan of running to help me. I like it because I can do it anywhere. I can do it alone. I can do it with people. I can run fast to just exhaust myself. I can run slow and long to meditate while I do it.
And, always, it helps get rid of the urgey energy.

This list is amazing! Thank you all for contributing and thank you for putting it together. It's wonderful to see all of these in one place. It's kind of mind blowing to realize how many alternatives I have, especially at a time when it seems to be the only thing worth doing.

i used to use this, and then i found it again. was very trigged, but by the time i reached the bottom of the list, i felt better and the trig has lost its grip on me. thankyou :cystar:

I told my T about this list and I printed it out for her and now she uses it. She also has recommended the board to some of her clients. I love this list, I keep a copy on my computer, a printed out copy in my planner, and one in my overnight bag so I always have access to it even when I don't have access to bus.
