Healthier mental language *SI*

Post by zazie » Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:39 pm

I realized recently that a lot of the language I use to mentally 'talk' about my SI, is really unhealthy and not making things better.

I tend to think of not SIing as 'being good' and 'behaving', and SI as 'self-indulgence' and 'something for me'. It makes not doing SI sound like a chore I do out of obligation, and SI sound really appealing. That's truer than is entirely healthy, but I want to see if shifting my mental language can help shift attitudes. I'm trying to think of words or phrases to use that don't ring completely false (so I'm more motivated to use them), and frame things in a healthier way. It's tricky, because my self-esteem isn't great, but I want to make an effort at least. The worst that could happen is nothing.

Suggestions and questions welcome.

I'm trying to make it so when I talk to myself I don't make SI sound too much like the appealing option, and not doing SI sound too much like the tedious good-girl option.

I kind of do that too. What I try to do is modify it to
Not si=being good TO MYSELF
si=selfish/hurting everybody
