Self empowering songs list (coping stratagy)

Post by Chey Kizoxie » Fri Dec 14, 2007 4:36 pm

I decided to start a thread in coping for songs and artists who have songs that are uplifting and make us feel good. Songs that are not angry or spitefull

I encourage everyone to post songs in any genere and I will use this first page for the compleat list. Let me know if i missed a genere. Just suggest a song and I will add it to the list.

Sam Cooke- A change is gonna come
It's soul, I suppose...but the lyrics are very uplifting! :)

But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Never Too Late-Three Days Grace (rock)
Over You-Daughtry(rock)
Those are both pretty empowering songs to me. Not completely sure why though.

Stand Back Up by the Dixie Chicks
In Which Something Oooh Occurred

And it felt like a winter machine that you go through and then you catch your breath and winter starts again, and everyone else was springbound. And when I chose to live, there was no joy, it's just a line I crossed. I wasn't worth the pain my death would cost, so I was not lost or found....But when you live in a world, well, it gets in to who you th ought you'd be. And now I laugh at how the world changed me. I think life chose me after all.

Yes, "God Is A DJ". :D I don't know how many times I've blasted that baby and danced about in my bedroom.

Uhh, "Rose" by A Perfect Circle always seems to work for me, as well as: "Strange Little Girl" (the Tori Amos version) and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colours". Ooh, "Sally's Pidgeons" (also by Cyndi Lauper) might be a good one. "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance gives me a bit of a chuckle...

Atmosphere - Sunshine (hip hop)
My bad sight made me trip on my ass right into that patch of grass like that's life
All of a sudden, I realize something
The weather is amazing, even the birds are bumpin

"Stand Back Up" by the Dixie Chicks is a country song. Sorry 'bout that.

How about "The Wood Song" by the Indigo Girls? Not sure where they'd go. They're filed under rock/pop in the music store.....

One - U2 feat. Mary J Blige
Great song, and very uplifting

I'd put it in either Rock, R&B or Soul. I'm not about music categories... :-?
But Mary is just the best in this, she has an amazing voice, and I usually hate R&B.

Mirror by Barlow Girl

This song is all about not letting the world define who you are. It's a Christian song - and has been special to me in getting control of my life.
With a broken wing, she still sings
She keeps an eye over the sky...
And with a broken wing, she'll carry her dreams
Man, you ought to see her fly!
Martina McBride, Broken Wing

A Soft Place to Land
Taking a Hard Look at Life
