PM's

Post by HakunaMatata » Sat Sep 08, 2007 6:50 pm

Just wondering- is it only the people who are involved in the PM conversation that can read them, or can board staff read them too?
I'm asking purely out of curiosity cause it occurred to me I didn't know the other day and has just bugged me since! Lol.

Hmm, I read somewhere that admins can access them too. Not sure.

Reading PM's is something that can only be done by working directly inside the database itself, and the admins don't have that level of permissions. When it comes to PM's, the stuff that admins can do is exactly the same as the members- we can send and receive PM's and view what's in our own Inboxes. We do have access to the admin panel for BUS, which allows us to make changes to the boards and to members' accounts and permissions, but there isn't any part of the admin panel that gives us access to PM's. We can turn them off if a user is using the PM feature abusively, but we can't read or see what anyone is sending or receiving.

yeah, here only Deb has that kind of power, and I can't see her using it...the whole point of PMs is that they are private. Not really anyone else's business.
It would freak me out also if I thought I was talking privately to someone and then found out other people could see it...even if it wasn't anything important, it would still freak me out.
