I've learned that cooking seems to help me cope a bit with the thoughts of hurting myself. It's weird, but it just seems to get my mind off of the thoughts. Of course, lately, I've been too tired and depressed to cook.

is there something else that can help you cope? like looking for fun new recipies or foods to cook?

try foodnetwork.com. food network usually has awesome recipies to cook with.

force yourself into it.... :) selves can be stubborn at times.

maybe cook for others.... nursing homes... neighbors.... family.....
stuff you can use to play in later... play-dough or paper mache....

Well, right now, the new liking of cooking has led to me putting together a cookbook as a Christmas present for the women in my family.

I take comfort in baking. There's this one recipe for a chocolate cake (tastes a lot like a brownie) that I have memorized. I always bake it to distract myself. Making and experimenting with stirfries are fun, too. You can throw in any veggies you want, and I test out different spices and sauces and oils for flavour. It's healthy, too :)

I also bake to distract myself, it really works; and i also feel good about myself when i see what i've created- and people always compliment me on my cakes and cookies- which makes me feel great too :D :D

I'm exactly the same, I've been known to cook three course meals for anybody who wants them at the height of my depression. And when someone compliments my cooking- I feel great! I've even gone so far as to volunteer as a cook in my local soup kitchen, it feels amazing to see my cooking helping the homeless who need it so much. I also clean and declutter, it's very relaxing. Somehow, if the kitchen surfaces are spotless, the beds are made, the books are stacked and the cupboards are ordered, I feel more at ease.
