Should I try therapy?
Should I try therapy?
I have always wondered if therapy really makes things better? Or will it bring back all of my darkest memories that I have kept locked away for so long. I ask this now because I have recently gone back into a deep depression and am afraid that I will not be able to come out of it this time. Any advice would be sooooo appreciated.

therapy is usually a good option if you find a counselor/therapist that you are comfortable with. if you have particular problems with males or females, you may want to keep that in mind when choosing a therapist. i would highly suggest this is you are having a lot of problems. i know it's difficult, but really important that you get help soon. it's so much easier to have more and more "episodes" of depression if it goes untreated. sometimes "deep dark issues" ARE brought up, but they usually only come up when you're ready to deal with them. they cannot be ignored or they effect your very being.

Therapy really helps if you find someone you feel comfortable with (like was said). The key is to keep looking. I'm someone who was very skittish of therapy. People--online and irl started telling me I should go back in 2003. I tried a couple times every year or so but never really gave it much time or effort. I finally really started in ernest in Nov. and it's really helped.

If it doesn't help you can stop it.
Therapy has been mostly ineffective for me as far as making things better in the long run. But it's nice having someone to vent/ complain/ validate my thoughts etc with/ to. It's like someone there whom you know isn't going to judge you, someone you can lean on.
It takes the edge off sometimes.

I think that I will try it since there is really nothing to lose.
Your right, If I don't like it I can just stop going.
I just really don't want to feel this way anymore.
I need the hurt and the pain to go away.

Therapy hasn't really worked for me. I felt that even though the therapists have studied the issues, its always different becuase they don't fully understand the mindset or feelings of a person with an addiction. I'm lucky enough to have a support group of friends who I know love me for me (sometimes i feel the therapists ive worked with really don't care- its just a job, or process of questions they go though) who I can call and they will listen to me vent & bitch as long as I need. Sometimes, I just need to talk & want someone there to listen.
Every action has a reaction and everything has a purpose.
