Ask the Mods

Post by balletomane » Mon Oct 16, 2006 4:39 am

By now you've probably seen the "ask the mods threads" on the other forums. In case you haven't, this is a thread where you can get to know your friendly b&a mods. Feel free to ask us questions, both silly and serious, about ourselves. Please be advised that one of us might be away, so you might now get your answers right away. Also, we might choose not to answer an uncomfortable question, or to reply via PM. Anyhow, let the asking begin. :star:

I second that, as I've wondered.
Balletomane, how about that one? The location of the emphasis could change your name from sounding graceful to being akin to a deadly poison. :fairy: vs. :drac:

How old are both of you, how long have you been si-ing, and what is your preferred method (very generally) ?

It's pronounced "ba-let-uh-meyn." Does that sound like the poison? :o

Hi to both of you! I feel a certain kinship with Balletomane because we share a birthday. :D

Thank you both for doing a great job. I really think this forum is the most immediately useful one on the board and I have told lots of people about it. I rarely post answers but I use the questions anyway.

So, my question is to ask if either of you ever hear from Tatty? I read her blog so have some idea of what is going on, but she's been on my mind lately.

Thanks!
Susan

Smeagol - smeegol.

Gwylan - goo-ee-lan. It's Welsh and it means "gull".

I don't hear from tatty, no, though I read her blog.

I'm 23, I've been si-ing for exactly three years, and I cut.

Glad you like the forum, beachgirl. :) I recommend it to people lots as well. I love the whole way of thinking, even if I don't post very often.

Sorry, Sue, I didn't see your other question before. I'm 19 and I used to cut and burn.

:wavey: beachgirl. I have not heard from Tatty for a while either.

Wow, Gwylan. That pronunciation is quite different than I expected (though I knew it wouldn't be phonetic).

:wavey: Pinky. :D
what's your favorite restaurant?
Peyton's Place. It's this little restaurant in New Hampshire run by this family. It's in their house. When I went there the chef made me a special vegan dish. :)
do you like thunderstorms?
Not really. The power always goes out when there's a storm. Usually when I'm desperately trying to finish a paper.
what is your favorite ice cream?
Carrot cake rice cream.
do you like toffee/caramel apples?
I loved them when I was little. I once made a bunch for my Latin class when we had a project about the Iliad. :)
do you like crushed ice or ice cubes?
I like crushed ice.
are you a morning person or nite owl?
nite owl definitely.
do you have favorite cereal?
Shredded wheat. Definitely.
do you live in a house or apartment?
Currently I live in my parents house.

That was fun. After my linear algebra exam today, questions I can actually answer are a welcome change.

Um, I don't know about restaurants. We eat Italian a lot, but there's a great Chinese take out. I really don't do favorites. I like things, and sometimes in the mood for things, bu thtere's nothing that I'd always pick.

Yes, I like thunderstorms, and I like ice.

I live in a bedsit (halls of residence), and I'm not good at mornings or evenings.

I think I would want to live in Florence. It is just an amazingly beautiful place. :)

Nope. Can't do handstands either. I've never been able to do that, even as a child. Never had the nerve. can't even handstand in a swimming pool where I don't have to worry about hitting my head, because then I'm too busy holding my nose.

I am generally unathletic, and have absolutely no interest in team or competitive sport. I do, however, have surprisingly good upper body strength. Must be from carrying all those books to and from the library. I'm working on developing my lower body strength because apparently balance is a function of muscle tone, and I need to be able to stand on one leg without falling over in dancing. And for all I'm unathletic, I enjoy exercise because I enjoy feeling my body work. It makes me feel alive.

Okay, that's more than you asked, but the point of this is to get to know us, right? So now you know about me and exercise, and you know that I ramble on and go off topic.

I think I heard my name....

I am trying to make a glorious, blazing re-entry to BUS, having dealt with a lot of my own nonsense in the last nine months. Hem Hem.

So I suppose my question for everyone who uses this forum is: is it alright by you if I come back here and try and make myself a home again?

Tatty

And in the mean time I will answer these questions, so you can get a sense of me:

what's your favorite restaurant?

I have two. The first is called Aldo's, and is on Greek Street in Soho in London, and they give me free grappa, and the second is policci's in Bethnal Green in Londond- it's a proper old greesy spoon and they do a mean black pudding and always remember me.

do you like thunderstorms?

Yes, I love them.

what is your favorite ice cream?

Pistashio. Or maybe something hugely exciting and very exotic. I also like a deceny vanilla icecream.

do you like toffee/caramel apples?

No. They make me sick. Sorry.

do you like crushed ice or ice cubes?

Ice cubes. I tke them out of drinks and cruch them... very anti-social...

are you a morning person or nite owl?

nite owl

do you have favorite cereal?

I don;t eat cereal

do you live in a house or apartment?

In a house, all of my own, all oon my own. My house is beautiful and I love it to the very bottom of my soul.
