deb was talking about rebuidling the search databases. Maybe that's the problem? [1]

[1] So that the board software can search posts, every time a post is made it goes through that post and adds the words to the index. The index says something like "word x appears in posts a, b, c". Doing that slows it down because it's doing this whole extra level of processing as well as just entering the post into the database. Plus if people are searching, taht will slow things down. But this is just a guess. It might be nothing to do with this.

i haven't done that, though. hmmm. i'll look into it. i know that at some times, the machien is running backup/update software.

i may have to move more stuff to the archive. ick.

I'm not good at computery stuff. But it seems to me that sometimes BUS is slow simply because it's so damn big? So much stuff to access, reject or accept before you can even open a page.

Unless the slowness actually prevents me from reading a particular page (and half the time I know that's cos Gibraltar broadband is slower than normal dial-up), it doesn't bother me that much.

So long as I get where I want to be in the end....
