- Getting your sketchbook back with a page missing, freaking out, then going to your advisor to find the page framed on the wall of her office...
that just made my week.
that just made my week.
Most of the time I feel like I don't belong.
But I got my new favorite record today.
My favorites change every single day.
Except you,
You'll always be number one.

1) Squishy, wet grass.
2) When my friend Alex leaves me away messages in the morning.
3) Snuggling into my bed.
4) White, wicker chairs.
5) Sunlight coming through open blinds.
6) My cat sitting on my chest.
7) My dog giving me a kiss.
My room being clean.

I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing
sleep can't hide the thoughts splitting through my mind
shadows aren't clean, false mirrors, too many people awake
if you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down
I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else

Falling asleep with my cats
Curling up in the sunshine for a nap
Frosty mornings and still being warm
Sinking into a hot bath
making cookies
Getting a bunch of stuff
cinnamon rolls
tackling my friends in the yard
doing funny things in public with friends
Home cooked meals
Bright warm nights
Barbaques
Making my bed into a nest
Reading a good book
Movie nights with pizza and candy

Some of these are kind of obscure but they're all my little comforts that I don't actively DO to help but just kind of notice. some of these are almost a little embarssing to be admitting actually!
- A news reader on the regional news where I am who has a kind face and a comforting voice
- this poem by Katie Jane Garside:
The tension is discernible
But beneath your skin,
A growing time is happening,
And you will be released to an Eden-like garden,
Your soul is allowed to leap here,
And no-one, not even self will judge you,
You are beyond the gridlock of existence,
And the dance of trying to understand.
- toast
- lying in bed feeling really really low but watching a funny quiz programme or comedy stand-up on TV and still being able to laugh or forget about the feelings for just 1 second (I love Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You!)
- the stage presence of my favourite band and the intensity of watching them live
- drinking tea whilst listening to Cat Power in bed or while creating some kind of "art"
- the relief that I can sometimes achieve from meditation or yoga (again, even if its for 1 single second or moment)
- an odd phrase I hear or read that stays with me, going around in my head all day even though it should be insignificant
- a beautiful sky or tree or beach or some kind of nature that you don't just see on TV or in a picture but you see, smell, feel and breathe in, in real life. its so simple- just nature thats usually a background to your life but its so stable and strong
- just a look in someones eyes for a second that seems to hold so much meaning, even if its not being directed at you
sorry for being so soppy

"Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside — remembering all the times you’ve felt that way."

super strong coffee (soooooo good! drinking it right now)
bunny prints in my yard after a heavy snow
frosting (chocolate, especially)
feeling sweaty and tired after working out, like I've accomplished something
waking up in bed next to my husband
a phone call from an old friend
drawing a picture and deciding it actually isn't half bad
trying a new restaurant
getting to the cash register and finding out what you're buying costs even less than you expected
finding the *perfect* gift for someone and watching them open it, and the joy splash onto their face like a wave on the beach
waking up early and not feeling tired
finding money in my pants' pocket right before I put them in the washing machine
letting someone in on the road and having them wave to thank me
hearing 'i love you'
drinking champagne
climbing a volcano (yep, I've done it! most amazing thing ever)
looking at old pictures and remembering that yes, you have had happy times
scrambled eggs on Saturday mornings
playing board games and laughing with my sisters
my mom's back rubs
listening to my husband play the guitar
making jewelry
