New to this!! looking for answers *si*

Post by bbb999 » Sun Aug 21, 2005 6:55 pm

HI im new to all this but feel it the best way to get answers, or some understanding. I just want to chat or comunicate with people who can understand why someone si`s. I don`t want to worry my family, and my friends just think its a bit odd but i cut or burn my arm a few times a month not often but regular. Im sure im not alone but it feels that way.
Thanks for looking :)
Peace

hey...i'm not really new to the self harm but am too new to BUS, though i was on it before...but i can tell you from my experiences and as a psychology major why i self harm...i don't know if you feel this way...but for me my self harm (mostly cutting)...is a coping mechanism...i cannot endure the emotional pain i feel because it is so intense, so instead i hurt myself to feel the physcial pain...then when i see the blood...i feel a release, i feel numb...then i feel better...then taking care of my wounds by bandaging it up is like nurturing myself, something i didn't get growing up as a kid....self harm is like any addiction the way bysee it...ppl drink or gamble or smoke to cope with some stress or emotion or problem....we cope i hurting ourselves....

hi bbb999
yeah, what collide said

i cut etc as a drug
a nice adrenaline shot
some dopamine precursors and epinephrine analogs
the mind's reaction to physical pain

to wake me from total numbness
or shock me out of insane pain thought hurricane nightmare
then the bandanging and healing is like taking care of me
plus hiding it is distracting from the real problem

have a llama
