differences between bus and psyke

Post by God_Given » Mon Oct 25, 2004 7:39 pm

whats the biggest differencr between here and psyke? I heard about psyke on here,a nd went and checked it out, but it seems to be a whole lkot thesame. this just appears to be all si, not psyke, even tho a lot of psyke IS si

[NOTE: I've edited the title of this post to more accurately reflect what it's about; the original title gave some people the idea that this was a competition. It's not. -- deb]

Bus has more guidelines regarding what is allowed in posts.

Well, to me it seems that there are HUGE differences between the two sites. But I think those differences are all because of the different posting rules, like Mama mentioned.

Yeah: I checked out psyke too. It's very... well they are more lenient with what you're allowed to post, etc, and they are quite different.

bus is my favourite

What is psyke?

I realise it must be some board for mentals like us, but what is the url and the general tone of it?

I only found here a few hours ago, but I really like it!!!!

We don't allow the link to psyke to be posted because of the graphic details that are found there.

Yeah; I mean, I'm not saying they're bad, it's up to you if you want to go there, but if you get easily triggered or anything, don't go there.

psyke serves a purpose for some people; bus serves a purpose for other people. the biggest difference between the two boards is in the level of moderation. we've got a much larger staff, and we've got users who are willing to help out and let us know when someone needs a little help staying within the rules.

i understand the appeal of a place where you can say all the darkest things you're thinking and post pictures of what you've done to yourself and reinforce all your beliefs about how fucked up you are. there was a time when i would have found the rules here annoying. that's one of the reasons we're a little more lenient in place, because people do need to say things sometimes. but i think it's also important to realize that your self-harm is a symptom, symbol, a marker for what's going on underneath, and that what's really important is how you are feeling. that's why we've got before and after, where you can look at what you're feeling and how you can cope with those feelings more effectively.

bus isn't just si, though we do focus on exploring what self-harm means to us and what we can do to cope instead. bus is a lot more recovery-oriented than psyke; you don't have to want to stop to join here, but we don't encourage people to self-harm. we don't think self-harm is anything to be ashamed of, though; we accept it as a coping method and suggest that there are other coping methods that might work as well or better and wreak less havoc in your life.

some of the more specialized forums you have to ask for permission to see by clicking on "usergroups" and asking to join the appropriate usergroup. the special forums are:

before and after (you have to join the ug to get posting privs; all can read it)

please be healthy -- a group about making changes to benefit physical health, because being healthy makes coping much easier

debating society -- where we argue about things like politics. you have to have been around for a while to get into this one, though. the idea is that by asking people to wait til they've been here 90 days and posted 100 times (though we do make exceptions), we're ferreting out any people who just want to make trouble. it's a group-only forum to make enforcing the rules easier -- the rules are very simple and straightforward, and if you break them you will be suspended from the debates forum for a bit.

welcome wagon -- a group of people who try to make newbies feel more at home.

families/friends private space -- for family members and friends, because sometimes they don't want to risk triggering people by talking about some things in the other forum. you have to be a family member or a friend of someone who self-harms and not self-harm yourself to join. again, requests for exceptions will be considered.

wow, that turned out to be long. anyway, welcome. if you've got questions,t he mods and admins can help.

I clicked on the debating society usergroup earlier today because I thought it sounded like an interesting place (and I do so love a good debate) but I hadn't seen this post about asking people to wait until they've been here 90 days and posted 100 times. I'll check it out again in a couple of months (I think I've only been around for a month or so... not sure since I lurked a bit before registering, but I know I haven't posted 100 times yet... I like to get the feel and culture of an online forum before I go spouting my mouth off too much  )

I went on psyke once and though it had proper warnings i looked at the pics and it scared me. ppl says it helps them stop others not, but I think it is better for everyone to have that rule because people may feel challenged though BUS has many rules i like it because I feel safe where as I feel very scared on psyke esp. by the things people say.

it is more controlled here.
*Challenges welcome*
I always love a :lpurpstar:

I go for the pictures sometimes, but that's it. I like the community on bus, and the safety of the rules and moderation. But I sometimes like the graphic pics on psyke.

I post regularly on psyke and when i saw this i felt compelled to argue in its case.
Psyke forum and the psyke pictures (IMO) are completely differnt. The whole website run by Wulff, btu the forum itself is mostly run by differnt people and it states very clearly in our rules that posting pictures is forbidden. This thread is giving the impression that we are very pro-si which we are the oppisite of. In the past we have had problems with mods and admins but now it is much better monitored and a nice friendly place to be. I shan't say much more as a newbie but just wanted to say its not all bad!
