Although I don't understand the technical jargon, I've found this thread incredibly interesting to read, and I've learned a lot. I have a profound admiration for Deb and the other members of BUS who have the knowledge, ability, and experience to keep this board running as smoothly as it does. Thankyou to you all.

I'll be very interested to see if the culprit is caught, and if so, what consequences/repurcussions will be. What are the possible outcomes? I mean, are there laws about this kind of hacking/cracking? And if so, what legal consequences can/will there be? Will the person have charges laid against them? What are the options? Because just telling someone that they did a Bad doesn't seem terribly effective. I'm interested to hear what kind of regulations etc are available.

I hope you get some satisfaction from those you've been in contact with, Deb. I don't envy them your wrath. :)

Could this second attack have been caused by the same person as the first, or are the two events so close together just coincidence?

I was just thinking that the second attack sounds like it was quite malicious (I missed it myself, and am glad of it). Could it have been retaliation?

I dunno, I'm clueless about tech stuff.

it coul be, but the computer ip addresses were different, so i'm guessing just random sickos. i believe you refer to them as "fuckknuckles" (at least, my sweetie does).

Yep. Fuckknuckles indeed. Total wankers. :)

I figured it would make sense that the person would use a different computer so they couldn't be linked to the first attack, but I don't know enough about how things work to know if that would make a difference or not as far as IP's go.

Good luck with everything. I can't believe what a fantastic job you and the other admins are doing. Thankyou again. :)

Hmmmm I would be interested in knowing who this perp was. Wonder if he is Paul Khori, this jerk who seems to like to torment me on line and be Mr. innocent to everyone elce. Oh well I did forward his email where he called me a racist nazi to the moderator of another forum im on. However the moderator told me just to ignore him. I wish she would have at least banned the looser.

Don't forget there's a thread on Place for talking about your feelings about the hacking.

i really doubt that it was someone who had anything personal toward anyone on the board.

there was an exploit discovered in phpbb, the version we were running. it was common knowledge among script kiddies, who searched google for boards running that version. i think the reason they started out with relatively mild stuff and progressed to more disgusting stuff was that as they figured out what the board was about, they started putting in things they knew would expecially disturb us. i haven't seen anything to convince me this wasn't a random attack, and i don't think i will.
