Slow response

Post by k&mmom » Tue Dec 28, 2004 7:09 pm

Is anyone but me having problems with response times. I use dial-up and it seems to take much longer than normal to login, see a board, open a thread, submit a response, etc.

I don't seem to be having the same issues with other sites I visit. Is it me or are others seeing this as well?

I am... and I think slow was a huge understatement. It took me about 5 minutes to get to this topic, whereas normally it'd be about 10 seconds, 15 max, on a bad day, when my internet was going slowly....

This is driving me crazy!!!!!!!

It's like wading through porridge or sticky toffee!!!! Takes ages to access bus, to log on, to access topics, whatever. I'm like k&mmom, on a dialup, and half the time the pc gives up before I've got where I wanted to go.

PLEASE, PLEASE - I know its the Xmas holidays, but lots of us need bus now more than other times - please SORT IT OUT!!!!!

And now I have to wait another 15 mins before this submits and clears so that I can access messages etc. PLEASE get this problem fixed - this is the time of year when most ppl are needing quick access!!!!!

As if by magic - my pc couldn't submit this, took too long. This really needs sorting.

yeah ive been having real problems with bus too, most of the time it refuses to load, and when it does, as others have said, it takes a good 10 -15 minutes to load the separate pages.
the bussers i talk to on MSN have been having the same problems with it failing to load and it being ultra slow.

so i beg of you guys, please get this problem sorted, its nigh on impossible to use bus at the moment.

peace.

Hiya

Yes it is very annoying. The person who owns and maintains the server has been contacted. I'm not very techie so I don't really know what's up or how long it will be before it's sorted out.

If you're in need of support, you could try emailing BUS friends, or MSN or whatever. Or you could subscribe to the BUS email list http://www.buslist.org/bus101.html or go to the chat room at http://www.buslist.org/chat.html (also available on IRC at irc.shadowfire.org, channel #bus, password si). I'm not sure if the email and chat room are affected by the problems or not (I told you I wasn't techie!) If they are affected too, there are other support groups on the Net, but do be careful since they won't necessarily be as safe as BUS.

Hmm, I tried to post this message already but I think it ate it. Hope it works this time!
Take care

I think the BUS email list is down as well. But the chat room isn't.

Also, a lot of bussers have LiveJournal accounts, and there are two groups BUS Unites and LJ BUS. They're not often used, but they are read by quite a few bussers including myself. Maybe while the board is down they might be useful, since I'm certain the problems with the busmail server can't affect livejournal.

Take care all

i'm aware of the problem and i've let mark know. i've no idea what's causing it, and i'm very sorry that it's being such a pain.

yeah. it was a worm that exploited a vulnerability in the board. this is going to force me to upgrade to 2.0.11 asap, so we may lose some features you guys have come to know and love. i won't know the extent of teh changes til after the upgrade.

i had to put in a file, stop the webserver, kill a lot of processes, restart the web server, then stop and restart the database. so far, it seems to be working.

Thanks for jumping on it so quickly Deb. I'm sure you had better things to do this week.

maybe my problem had to do with the board????

Hate to think that but at this point anything is posssible....
