email notificatio of pm's that don't exist

i'm getting email notifications of pm's but when i go to my inbox there are no new messages.

why is this so??
i do wonder....

i don't get popup notifications because of my firewall. so that's normal.

i'm guessing the sender deleted them from their outbox???

because it's possible to *unsend* PMs by deleting them from your outbox, so long as the person you're sending it to hasn't picked it up yet.

but in such a case the email notification service *won't* unsend your notification
