can we have a chat room?

i was wondering if there's a way to add a BUS chatroom somehow... i always find myself alone and bored, and i'm sure there are others in the same boat as me.. it'd neat to just have a place for members only where we can go to chat... the real-time seems to help more than waiting around for a reply in the forums

Which one doesn't work?

I'm pretty sure the old one at buschat.org doesn't work. But the other one, at http://www.buslist.org/chat.html (or point your chat client to irc.shadowfire.org and join #bus with password si) is alive and well. Not everyone in there will be from the web board - some are from the email group or the chat room only - but there will definitely be people and conversation.

Which one were you trying, and what happened?

i tried the buschat.org one.. it just came up with an add website

OK. I think the buschat one was discontinued cos it hardly got used. Hopefully you'll have more luck with #bus.

Hey Laura, just an aside cos I'm sure it can be fixed...

But I think it depends on how your pc is configured or whatever. I've been able to get onto #busfamily for months now, but the pc just got re-configured and anti-virused, and now I can't get there - in fact I'm about to pm mian to ask why/how.....

Someone who "knows" about this stuff can make it work. But it's not actually easy to log on to the chatrooms...

Are you using the Java applet at http://www.buslist.org/chat.html or your own irc client?
What happens when you try?

I tried using the Java applet right now and there were some warnings about popups and firewall but even when I told the firewall to continue blocking whatever it was the thing worked. There are 33 people in the chat room right now. I'll see if any can help.

www.buslist.org/chat.html is the link to go to if you want to chat via java (the webpage). If you don't have a Java plugin (a small program), it usually asks if you want to download it. (that was friarygirl's problem) If you have an irc client, log onto irc.shadowfire.org and join #bus with the keyword si.
