weird thingy....

Post by sassy koala » Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:16 pm

sometimes when I log in and look at the forum index and over on the right where it says who last posted in that forum and what date and time, sometimes it says:

31 Dec 1969
18:00

I noticed it when I logged in today on the mod forumand have occasionally noticed it on the main BUS forum.
is this a me issue or is this a software issue?
:o :uhhh:

It's a software issue. Periodically there have been posts about this...I wouldn't worry about it. :-)

Apparantly the software (can't remember what software, but it's the one that control the times) works on counting up from 1st January 1970. When a post is deleted, the time index (it's a discrete integer) gets set to 0 or -1 (-1 in this case since it was 31st Dec, 1969).

I find tech stuff like this interesting.

http://www.4webhelp.net/us/timestamp.php is a unix timestamp decoder.

unix time codes are the number of seconds since midnight january 1, 1970.

Interesting.... 31st December 1969, 18:00:00 converts to -21600. I can understand why it'd be set to 0 or -1, but not -21600!

21600 seconds equal 6 hours. 18.00 is six hours before midnight. weird,t hough; i wonder if time codes go backward (i doubt that) or if the programmer just didn't allow for that case?
