can't find website busmail.org

Post by Susa » Tue Jul 27, 2004 2:21 am

Lately, more often than not, when I try to reply to a topic, I get a webpage that says "can't find website busmail.org", when I hit the submit button.

Obviously, I am already here typing my reply. What is probably happening?

Sometimes the same thing happens to me. I've got mine pinpointed to my crappy dial-up connection combined with my lack of RAM. Occasionally I have to try a couple times. If I type something long I usually copy and paste it into Notepad or something. One thing that really helped my situation (the RAM part of it) is I stopped using IE and started using Avant Browser, which takes up far less of my system's resources. I don't know if this helps, because I don't know about your computer. That's about all I have to offer.

Thank you. I am also on dial up. I have AOL. I know this is a dumb question, but AOL is my browser, right? I can use IE if I want to, but I always use AOL. From what you are saying, it sounds like this is more of a "time out" thing from dial up, than a problem on BUS.

the aol browser is also quite pants,
so it's probably a combination of both -

i'm on dialup and use IE [which is also far from ideal]
and i've only had weirdness of this sort on one occasion
"Knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in night.Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and god was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever, and we are alone.Live our lives, lacking anything better to do.Devise reason later.Born from oblivion;bear children, hellbound as ourselves;go into oblivion. There is nothing else.Existence is random.Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long.No meaning save what we choose to impose."

yeah, if it's possible for you to use your IE instead of AOL, that might be a good idea.
Alternately, there are other browsers that are better than IE, but at least IE is pretty standard.

It is not my AOL that is causing this problem because the only place I am having trouble is here. I have never had problems posting before. Now the message I am getting is:
Failed sending email

DEBUG MODE

Line : 198
File : /var/www/busmail.org/phpBB/includes/emailer.php
Is no one else having any problems with this? I only get these weird messages when I am submitting a reply.

OK, that makes three people. Me, Proximity (who's even a board admin!), and you with that EXACT error. Even the line number. Thing is though, it happens ALWAYS in my place, in one thread on main, but nowhere else. Wierd.

yup, yup, happening here, too.

just an FYI - it *does* post your post.. it just doesn't bump the thread or show you as the last poster on the thread.. but if you look, your post is there ..
(just so people who are having this problem don't go cliking *submit* 1,000 times ;) )

So it happens consistently for users in particular threads.... That's wierd. Mind if I try posting in your place to see if it happens Prox?

I suppose I should have predicited an inability to find it. Never mind. We've determined it's happening for every user in particular threads.... but they appear to be chosen at random.

Computer malfunctions never cease to amaze me.

Deskana, it is happening to me in the Human thread at "Down the Long Day's Arc".

Now that I know I may have actually posted there, I need to go and see how many times I posted. LOL

Please come say 'Hello' there and see if the thread is broken for you. Also on that thread no one there seems to be able to see the last few replied unless you go into the Reply box and read the Topic Review.

is it still happeing? it hsouldn't be.

i was updating sendmail yesterday. in the process, i accidentally hosed it, so no mail could be sent by the board. i fixed it, and now mail can be sent again so it shouldn't be choking when it tries to do the notifying people part of posting.
