Oh hell I deleted my entire inbox...

Post by friarygirl » Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:42 am

I was getting concerned because it was registering 105% full, despite or maybe because of the kind of reassuring answers I got to my last post here about inbox capacity. So I went and ticked some boxes and clicked "delete marked" or at least thats what I meant to click - and it really did delete ALL my pms not just the marked ones!!! There is stuff there I so didn't want to lose, including a couple of messages from my daughter (I know it's odd but we communicate well on bus). My "sentbox" is now 125% full, and there is stuff I'd like to get rid of there too along with lots more that I'd like to keep for reference, sentiment etc. And I don't dare touch it, but I don't want it to start automatically deleting first in last out, etc. I thought clicking on a page-full of pms would get rid of that page, not the whole shebang.

Is there any way of recovering the lost pms, or do I just have to deal with it?

I'm sorry to tell you this but lost pm's are lost.

As for your sent box, if you want to save any of those, I suggest, instead of deleting old stuff, to go through and tick the boxes of the ones you like and then click "Save marked" they will wind up in your saved box and if there are any glitches it shouldn't delete anything

Oh bum bum and more bum. I had a horrible feeling they were really gone.

Crap, that's a bit rough, I'm in the middle of a fairly sensitive pm convo... You sure there's no way of getting any of it back? I don't want most of it, just about the 5 most recent ones...?

Deb may have some way of resurrecting them from the database, but aside from that, there is no way to get them back.

Deb's not here is she. Oh well, I guess worse things have happened at sea. And I guess I clicked the wrong thing. But even my mobile phone gives me a second chance!!!

I'll just have to be more careful in future. And follow Jo's guidelines for dealing with my Sentbox stuff.

Is there any way you could have the people you were in contact with resend the pms in question. They may still have them in their sentbox. I'm sure it would be an awkward ask, but I think most people around here would be understanding.

What she said... the other person may be able to "resend" the stuff you wanted to keep.
I suspect Em could, cause most of us don't try to clean out our sentbox.

Thanks guys. I've seen so many posts like this and now I've done it and I feel such a dufus.

I've pm'd everyone I recall being in the middle of a conversation with, so hopefully (apart from anyone my memory has let me down with) nobody is going to be offended because I've suddenly stopped talking to them.
