OT cheap webcam pic probs

Post by s0_vErY_sCaReD » Fri Jan 05, 2007 12:08 pm

I bought an uber-cheap camera that sez it is also a webcam and got it all hooked up and stuff, but the color is allll wrong. I can't seem to balance it out. Here's a pic I captured off the webcam of my desk lampshade:

My desk lamp is silver and the lampshade is like a white with a silver grid pattern. Here's a couple pix of the lampshade as comparason:

Anyone have any ideas?

cheapy web cams don't really work too well up close like that picture seems to be, because the light can't get into the aperture.

Does it have auto focus, or is it manual?

Well... here's the thing... All three photos were taken with the same camera. The still photos were taken with the camera in digital photo mode, and the funky photo was taken in webcam mode. :-? Thats part of whats confoozling me.

And I've fiddled with the color settings (on the computer when the camera is connected cuz thats the only way to do so) but I still can't get any decent color settings. Its either that super-reddish or its waaaayyyy blue.

Oh, yeah... its auto-focus, as far as I know.

Can the camera take videos in standalone mode (i.e not connected to the computer as a webcam)?

If so, you can compare the difference between the video it takes in normal mode (unconnected) and webcam mode.

A corrupted image in both modes would suggest a camera fault.

A corrupted image that only exists in webcam mode or when you play the video on a computer would suggest either faulty drivers, software or peharps a missing codec.

Hope this helps.
