How do you strikethrough?

Random question, but how do you strikethrough/put a line through the middle of text?
I've tried looking it up on the net and it said [s]text[/s], but that doesn't appear to work. So does anyone know how?

perhaps theres some american spelling i'm not aware of. it took me ages to work out why my <centre> didn't work.

<center>Its also because its <center*> without the *, the others im not sure about</center>
