Re: spam in place
Yes, the spam has been pretty bad lately. We're trying to stay on top of it, deleting spam messages and spammers as often as we see them ... I know I've been doing it several times a day, and I'm not the only admin or mod who's working on trying to control the spam.
Anyhow, I've gotten rid of that post, and deactivated the user.

Re: spam in place
Thank you Prox and Han. It must be a nightmare trying to stay on top of it!
In the meantime I've found another one...

Being almost devastated is horrible because it lingers. But total devastation brings a kind of peace. It lets you give up.

Thanks rolypolybird .
I have flagged it "for the attention of the admins" so the next time one of them is on-line that "member" will be deleted.
BTW, there is no need to post in administrivia and technical support to report spam (though it is fine if you do ). All that you have to do is to click on the red "!" (= report) in a spam post and select "spam" from the menu. That will let mods/admins know.

Re: spam in place
Kiwi, thanks for explaining how to report spam more efficiently. I can't believe I didn't know that after how long I've been here!

Re: spam in place
That reporting feature is actually fairly new, only since deb upgraded the board we used to have a much less efficient post-reporting feature, but then it broke, so for a long time it was just 'post somewhere or pm someone' ... the new reporting thing is awesome!
Also, just to let you know, we've been collecting IP addresses that we've gotten spam from repeatedly, and when they don't crossover with any of the IPs real posters post from, we've been blocking them. This should hopefully lead to us seeing less spam

Re: spam in place
Thanks for that information, Prox. It's good to know I haven't been completely oblivious all this time!
I have to admit I have a very basic understanding of these things, but it's great that you can reduce the amount of spam by blocking certain IP addresses.
