BUS or just my computer?

Post by shizzam » Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:07 am

Hey all,
So I've been having this problem where threads (from all forums) show up as "New Post", despite the fact that I've already read them.. usually multiple times.
Of course, my computer isn't exactly the most reliable one out there, but in the slight chance it is a BUS issue, I thought I'd post here.
So, has this happened before? Is it easily fixable? Or is it just my computer being grumpy?

Thanks,
Shizz

If there has been a new post on a thread since your last visit to BUS, or since you last looked at the thread, it will be marked as new - is this what is happening, or are all threads remaining "new" no matter what you do?

I am not an expert, so it could be something totally different from this.

But it sounds like your computer might not be accepting cookies from BUS. If you tend to have a fairly high security setting, that could explain it... I know my dad likes to get rid of cookies a lot, and it can mess up being able to tell what you have and haven't read.

The other thing that can make a difference, is if you are hitting the "Back" button to get back out of the thread to the main board... I know for me, if I do that, the computer is just pulling the "old" version that I saw out of its memory rather than getting the information sent again, and the old information has the thread marked as "new".

JustMe: Thank you. It's appreciated!
Proximity: All threads remaining "new" no matter how many times I check them. Except that it's not all of them. It seems like it happens to every second or third thread :o
NTY: I checked my cookie setting and it's set to accept all cookies from all sites and all third-party cookies too. I reset it, just in case, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I don't use the 'back' button either.. Thank you for the suggestions, though! They were very much appreciated.

Restarted my computer again in some vain hope that it would help. No change..

It's now marking threads where I'm the last person who posted as "New Post". Guhh

Well good to know I'm not the only one at least

I think this is pretty much a lost cause.
Thanks for all suggestions!

What browser do you use? Some browsers don't seem to refresh pages as well as others. Safari is particularly bad, IME.

take care,

I got my genius geek friend to have a look at it.. and it works fine now. I have no idea what she did, but if I ever find out, I'll tell you! :D

So thanks again for all suggestions!
