I'll apologise in advance here - I thought there was an "Ask the Moderators" thread but I can't find it, so I started this thread...
Yesterday I reported a thread where a BUS member was 'attacked'. The particular section of thread has now been moved to 'holding'.
Is there no policy for acknowledging when someone reports a thread/post? I would have appreciated at least some words along the lines of "Thankyou for your report, this matter is now being dealt with".... or "Thankyou for your report, that particular part of the thread has now been removed while the situation is dealt with..." or "Thankyou for your report, the Moderators appreciate efforts to keep BUS safe"... etc etc
Yet I heard nothing. I just eventually noticed that the particular section of that thread had been removed.
It makes me feel that I did something 'wrong' - there has been no acknowledgement of my report at all - just my posts disappearing along with those of the person I reported.
Please, in future, can just one Mod send a PM to the person reporting a post/thread, acknowledging that a report has been made? I do not wish to know the in's and out's of what is done when a thread is reported and removed..... I just want a simple acknowledgement of the fact that my report is being dealt with.
Edit: Actually I might have just answered my own question..... When someone writes a report on a post, does their name go forward to the Moderators? Because there's no space for entering in our user-name - does it go through automatically? If my name didn't go forward, then I understand why my report wasn't acknowledged.... But if my name does go forward, then I'd appreciate an acknowledgement of the fact that I made a report.
I do not mean that Mods 'should' breach confidence... I don't expect to read "Yes.... "X" has been very bad and has been warned/banned etc etc" - it's just an acknowledgement that a report has been made that I'm seeking!
Acknowledgement of reporting a post?

Thankyou for that jomomma, and thankyou for your PM! You've put my mind at rest!
I would like to say that I'm impressed with how quickly the situation was dealt with. I know I complained about not getting an acknowledgement - but I realise that that was an oversight, and that's fine!
BUS is a huge place and you all do a good job in keeping it running smoothly!

Sorry!
I know there were a couple people involved in handling this (a mod noticed the report but couldn't do anything because it was not in their section of the board, so I was handling it) and between us, we just didn't get the PM sent.
Yes, normally if you report something (don't use the "report this post" button, it doesn't work. Use the "write a report" at the top of the page), you will get a PM acknowledging that we got it. You won't usually get details of what is done, since we try to keep any board discipline private to avoid embarrassing people, but you normally would get a response so you know the report got through.
