Having trouble with the chat

Post by idontfly » Mon Sep 25, 2006 6:01 am

I have the latest version of Java, but the chat won't work. It comes up as the box with a red x in the corner. The CGI chat doesn't work either; whenever I press "chat" it says the page cannot be found. :(

This is a new computer, so is there a setting I have to change to make the room load properly (the java one, hopefully)?

Which address are you using to access the java chat? Did you try http://buschat.smurfin.nl/intro.php ?

You might have to check your browser settings? I don't know if you need to enable java or something.

Nope, still doesn't work... :( Does anyone know how to enable java, if that is the problem? Or if there's something else I can do?

To tell you how to enable java, you need to tell us what OS (i.e. windows/mac/linux) you are using, and what web browser.

The other way to use chat is to access it not from the web-based java thing but from an irc client, such as mirc (for windows) or colloquy (for macintosh). (Those two are popular ones that a free to download and install).

Windows XP. I'd rather avoid downloading mIRC...

OK, well I'm a mac user, so I really can't help you with windows XP/Internet Explorer or whatever. My guess is that enabling Java would be in preferences, maybe under security or some such? Google suggests Tools > Internet Options > Security?

But you'd be much better off waiting for someone who has windows to tell you, cos it's nothing like on my computer.

I'm using Firefox and for me it's Tools/Options/Content (my browser is swedish so it could be named something else, but that's what I think) and then check "Enable Javascripts" and "Enable Java".
