i'm moving the half-gig backup file to offsite storage (okay, i'm emailing it in bits to myself at google).
it's almost done -- 40 of 44 pieces have been sent. when it finishes, things will speed right up.

that's the compressed version. it's 1.2 gigs unzipped.
the big task remaining is reading the database backup into another database, one that hte archived board will use. after that, i just have to clone the baord files, set it up to use the db i'll've just created, nuke posts older than some date in that db and prune posts here. then it'll be good.
theoretically i could prune posts now (and i may do that anyway) since i've got the backup.
this had better give us a serious speed increase.
