a bit of slowness

in order to maybe speed thigns up a little, i'm doing some major backup stuff that will slow thigns down a lot. i was trying to get it done just now, but it's going to take a lot longer than i expected so i'll do it in about 6 or 7 hours.

what i'm hoping to be able to do is back up the database, make a copy, set up an archive board with the copy, then delete posts older than a couple of years on this database and younger than that on the other. we'll see how it goes. anyway, step one is making the backup, so i'm starting with that.

I will try to answer a bit of the why
If i am really wrong I am sure Deb will let me know

There are things on this board that are several years old.
For the most part, they are not read too often and have not been replied to in years.
At the moment they are taking up space in the data base witch may be part of the reason for the slowness of the board most time.
By moving a majority of those threads to another location, it will tidy up the board, make for fewer pages and free up space so bus will move a little faster.

I will be aorund all evening(and more than likely well into the morning)so if you need any help with anything just holler

im kinda confused why we are still having so much slowness. Maby ppl's siggys are too long. Dunno.

I have high speed dsl so i dunno whats going on. Actualy some other sites (like google) take forever to lode but others take a short time. Guess i need to upgrade to cable light.

I'm so glad I found this thread. It's good to know I'm not going crazy. I'm on broadband but whenever I'm on bus lately it's like I'm working with a 28K modem. It takes three minutes to load a page, and ten minutes to submit a post!
