technical question on users, who are gone

Post by Nightfall » Mon Apr 24, 2006 8:55 pm

Having flipped about old posts (in my case in the away for a bit section) I notice that some of the users, which were deleted, still retain their username, whilst a lot of others just appear as Guest.

Both have no profile whatsoever and are technically inexistant.

What is the criteria, if people retain their usernames or not when leaving for good ? is it a technical thing or is it done by the admins, which decide on keep or don't keep ?

A nosy N.

the way it works, if I remember correctly is if you randomly leave and just stop posting your posts stay the same, you can still comeback and post, you have a profile etc still.

if you are deactivated either by request or otherwise you retain you username on your posts but everything else is gone such as your profile. this is reversible

if you are deleted then you appear as guest. this is permanent+

What's been said isn't quite right.

If someone's account is deactivated, then their name is still clickable and their profile is still there - in fact there's no way for anyone other than the person or an admin to know that their account is deactivated. And yes, this is reversible.

If someone's account is deleted, it's not reversible and their profile disappears. Usually their name turns to "Guest". A few users you'll see their name still there but in black and not clickable since there's no profile. They are deleted, and basically we admins don't know why some become Guest but a few a long time ago didn't.

That's all
