Temporary account freezing?

Post by Calluna vulgaris » Wed Dec 07, 2005 1:24 am

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a project coming up due and one of my resources was Deb's site, and a slight mention of this forum. Being the paranoid person that I am, I was wondering if it would be at all possible to have my account temporarily locked/banned/frozen until after I can be sure that my teacher is done with the rough work?

When banned, does a forum member's name show up on the posts they've made, or are they all just marked "guest" and the post contents left intact? And is it even possible to have my account "banned" and then re-activated at a later date (possibly by e-mailing a mod/admin from the account specified on here)?

I think Deb's site and this forum are valuable resources, and I'm not even sure if my teacher will go through and check all my sources, but to be on the safe side, I'm wondering if this is a viable route or not.

Any help would be appreciated. This teacher already "suspects" me (of SI) enough as it is. I don't need him getting on my back any more than he is now!

Banning has no effect on a person's posts. Nobody except them can see that they're banned.

The people whose names are in black, not clickable, and may show as Guest - they are people whose accounts have been deleted. (Usually they're not banned - the commonest reason for an account deletion is that the member themself asked for its deletion). Deleting an account can't be reversed.

There is another option - account deactivation. An admin can do that; it means you can't log in, but your account stays open, your name stays on all your posts. An admin can reactivate the account.

I'm not sure that any of these options really addresses your concern? Does your teacher know your username - would changing that temporarily help at all?

I hope we can work something out.

He doesn't know, I'm just paranoid. I dunno... maybe he'd search for something he knows about me?

In any case, I suppose there's nothing that could be done, short of editing all my posts that would concern me. But that just wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks, though, for explaining everything to me. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that if he does check all my sources, he just takes a peek and then leaves. :P
