Annoying As All Hell

I.E. is being a pain in the ass.

A gazillion windows popping up at one time
I have managed to fix the problem for me but I have a very dear friend who is about to toss her 'puter out the window unless we can figure out how to fix it and soon.

Any advice would be greatly apprciated

Um, why is she still using IE?
I'm not on windoze and I don't have any popups, but from last time you asked it seems getting rid of Internet Exploder would be a start

I recomend downloading FIREFOX I not had problems with pop ups since ive been using it. Its a far better browser than IE. If you do download it though don't delete IE as windows updates need to use it.

I use netscape and never have any problem with popups, it also runs smoothly and without any complication for me.

IE now has the facility for a popup blocker which is a good thing. But since I dont use it now I cant tell you if its any good or not.

IE is just a hazard if you're using windows as your OS and
spend any length of time online.

I also have opera installed but don't really use it as it does wierd things to a couple of forums I go to. If it didnt i'd probably use it.

I use Opera too!

It's a shame it never seemed to become "trendy" to switch from IE until Firefox appeared, years after Opera was around. I guess people didn't like the adverts - though Opera is now free without adverts, for anyone who hasn't heard.

It's available for several OSs, including Mac and Linux: http://www.opera.com/download/

I've only used it on Windows, so I don't know how well it works on other OSs, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

One of the biggest advantages I think is that it works better "out of the box". There are many things I like about Opera such as saving tabs you have opened so they are there when you restart, reopening pages you recently closed (works much better than the more usual "History"), resizing of pages (that works on everything, no just text font size). Some of these things may or may not be possible with Extensions in Firefox - but even if they all are, I think it's nice for someone switching from IE to have everything work straight away, rather than hunting around for what extensions there might be.

Although the main reason I use Opera over Firefox is simply because I've been using Opera long before Firefox was around, and I see no reason to switch (I don't know of any advantages Firefox has).

it does, but some find it buggy. what mac os do you use?

firefox works well for the mac. i use it with the Adblock extension, which makes life happy and fun. still haven't found a way to get rid of those nasty popunders though.

I use 10.3.9
I've downloaded Opera to give it a try-out. I'll hang onto it regardless because I collect browsers so that when I design sites, I can check them

or maybe I just like to have explorer, netscape, safari, firefox and now opera

like .. for fun or something.

It imported my bookmarks which is cool, though I've become used to safari's bookmark system .. but hey, when I switched TO safari, I didn't like their system, and now that I'm used to it .. you know. Familiarity breeds love, not contempt

Opera looks different, which always throws me when working on a different browser (like scrollbars, and menus etc. are just a bit different) ..
but it seems like a good browser. Haven't run accross any bugs yet, but I haven't asked it to do anything particularly remarkable either

Just thought I'd give a review.

I know of one bug in Opera 8.5 (for mac, though I think it's on other platforms too). It doesn't recognise internal links that are at the end of a long (very long, like an ebook) file, unless the anchors are styled with position:absolute. Which is a pain, cos certain other browsers do strange things with absolutely positioned anchors.

the cool thing about firefox is the extensions. i've recommended the bbcode gnereator one, the spellcheck one, and the ignore user on a phpbb board one to people before. there are tons of others i use.
i like the moodtap one a lot.

ok, well someone kidnapped my computer and put firefox on, (and then buggered off to venice) not that i-m complaining, but which version of the spell check should i download if i have firefox 1.0.7?
