Pm question

Post by bluflame02 » Thu Apr 07, 2005 4:11 am

this may be a dumb question and i looked a lil and searched for it in earlier posts but had no luck...

ive never got a pm before and i got one randomly today asking if i was doing ok out of nowhere asnd it creeped me out cuz i hadnt posted anything that would make poeple think i was sad or anything. Maybe i am just being paranoid but that person had never posted before at all.. and i know that i havent got the guts to pm ppl yet so it was *creepy* that they had pmed me w/o ever posting

So i was wondering if that is normal?? or more specifically can i like turn it off til i want someoen to pm me cuz i dont really feel comfortable w/ random ppl pming me and i never remember the screen names so i just open up all of my pms..

well now i read and it dont make much sense *sighs* oh well i dont know how to say it any other way

The person may have seen you online (on the index page there is a box saying "who is online") and PMed you because you were on at the time. I've had people I don't really know PM me this way before.

If this person had never posted before, and randomly PMed you, I can understand why thats a bit scary. You could report it to an admin, and forward the message, in case the person is a spammer, or something.

I think there is a way to block people from sending PMs, but I'm not sure about for receiving them. An admin should know though.

I've had quite a few people pm me before posting - I assume it's cos they can see I'm online and that I'm a mod. The first few times it did feel strange, but people vary in whether posting is scarier than pming or vice-versa.

Try not to let it upset you. It's fine not to reply. Of course, if the message is inappropriate in some way, then alert a moderator.

I don't know of any techie thing that can be done, but I'll check.

The only place I can see where you could possibly do that in your Profile is in the "interests" field. Not a great solution, but it would get your wishes into your profile at least...
