OT question for Mac users

Post by Laura » Mon Sep 06, 2004 12:21 am

In a month or so, I'm going to buy a computer of my very own for the first time!
And I'm thinking of getting a Mac (because I'm used to unix things, I'm not fond of Microsoft, all the mac users I know love their machine, and well, they are rather beautiful aren't they?)

Anyway, because of irritating landlord stuff I can't choose ISP, it will have to be Blueyonder. My question is: Do ordinary Macs that are on sale meet the min requirements for this ISP? Sorry but it's all computer gibberish and I don't understand. It says something about a NIC not a USB but I don't see NIC mentioned on the Apple site.

Scary scary, but it will be marvellous to have a computer at home :grnteeth:
Thanks for answering my silly question.
Love Laura

i don't know which one you were thinking of getting, but i looked at the imacs and noticed that it said "10/100 BASE-T (fast ethernet)" which is a description of a network interface card. i'd be really shocked if you could buy a mac form apple that didn't have a built-in nic -- that mention is probably for people with older machines.

I just call the computer store('s) where i buy my apple stuff and ask them technical questions like that... I can usually figure it out, search for hours on end on the net & learn lots of new stuff as well on my own but I can also pick up the phone and get the answer to my specific question in a matter of minutes once I set down my pride and suck it up... I love the apple computer geeks! Macs Rule! ::PC's Drool::

Thankyou both, that sounds reassuring
Naturally, I hadn't a clue that "10/100 BASE-T (fast ethernet)" was a NIC :o
*feels stupid, but happy cos she's getting a shiny new computer*
